Abstract This article proposes that Jonas’s understanding of gnosticism differs substantially from the account typically associated with him. That standard takes basic tenets existentialism as foundation to its discussion alienated individuality, whereas system uses neo-Kantian epistemology construct both alienation and individuality out a unified field human interaction. Within his framework, is single historical-philosophical episode inauthenticity, highly influential yet isolated in time, unlike ubiquitous it. reviews system, elements early later acceptance, along selected issues raised by critics, Heidegger Scholem Colpe, Yamauchi, Williams, King.
